Music Schools



Music schools have a long an illustrious history in the annuals of educational institutions. Strictly speaking, a music school or conservatory is an institution dedicated to teaching the art of music, including playing of musical instruments, musical composition, musicianship, music history and music theory. Today, you can find music schools that teach all types of music, musical performance, and music theory and history. There are music schools and programs dedicated to rock and roll music, jazz, classical, and now many types of music from around the world. You can find anything ranging from a certificate degree to a PhD program in a specialized area. Music degrees are offered at most major universities, as well. Most schools require a prospective student to audition for admission. In deciding whether to attend a music school or conservatory or to pursue a degree in music at a four-year university or college, it is important to research the programs you are interested in thoroughly. Visiting the schools that you are considering attending is a good way to get a sense for what the schools and programs offer.
